  4. Don't curse or swear because that is uncivilized. Netiquette civilizes the cybersphere.

  5. Be positive to create a positive social experience online.

  6. Don't digitally disrespect other users because it makes communication difficult.

  7. Google before you share to make sure you are sharing accurate information.

  8. Don't take it personal because it is not personal, it's digital.

  9. Respect others privacy, do not share the personal information of others online.

  10. Be selective in who you invite to avoid annoying your friends.





Social Media Netiquette

Social media netiquette is how you say what you like to your friends. It is not necessarily politically correct, but there is a code. Social media is User Generated Content (UGC). Netiquette is the social code of the internet. Therefore, Social Media Netiquette is the social code of UGC.

There are common rules for each type of social media, core rules above, and specific rules for each domain, netiquettes. It includes social networks, blogs, micro-blogs, content communities, and gaming. Social Media internet etiquette, netiquette, is the code we have among friends about how we act online. It's how we use social media with our friends.

Social Media Netiquette Rules

Social Network

A social network is a hybrid application of the internet that uses all of its forms to connect you with your friends, organizations, and businesses by sharing information, social media. Users create a profile and connect with friends and like pages.

Social Media Netiquette Rules are the common conventions we use updating our status, writing and commenting on blogs, and the way share things with our friends. Social communication can technically be defined in web terms as one to many communications. It's social because your friends can see it. Social equals fun in the minds of most people. Therefore, social media is fun because we enjoy connecting with friends. It is about having fun with them.

Social Media does mean business to a lot of people as well. User Generated Content (UGC) is the cyber word for social communication on networks. Social Networks are only as good as their users. It follows that a social media domain is only as good as its UGC. The better the UGC the better the network. Good UGC is good netiquette.

The ground rules of social media are the core rules. Do not share anything you would not share at work in social media because it is moderated and your boss may be checking up on you. It is proper netiquette to project a positive image because the world is watching. Facebook, the industry leader, is business casual because it is heavily moderated.

For example, Facebook removes possibly offensive comments, groups, and pages quickly. Furthermore, employers use it to vett candidates for positions. Facebook is regulated.

Social Media

The Social Media medium of communication consists of interactive and User Generated Content (UGC) delivered through the internet and applications. The content is on public and semi-public domains with unique url's that facilitate one to one, one to many, and many to many comunications.

This definition includes Amazon.com and eBay as well as social networks because users create profiles and interact. The business models of eBay and Amazon rely on social sales. Amazon through affiliates (Amazon Netiquette eStore) and eBay through feedback.

The Facebook social network sets social media standards because it’s the biggest, other sites are complimentary. Twitter is a micro blog that allows you to express yourself in short. Each tweet is limited to 140 characters. MySpace is the original social network. There are no limits on the number of friends you can have and little content moderation.

LinkedIn is a professional social networking site. It is an online resume complete with references. These are the most popular social networks and micro-blog social media websites. Gaming and Video Content Communities have their own categories of netiquette because the common techniques of effective communication, netiquette, are different.

Toshi Technology is a nerd. He has always been into computer and carried a camera before there on phones and before they were digital.

Eric Email:

Eric is cool. He is on a first name basis with everyone because he uses email so informally. Most of his email is personal.

Takako Tweet:

Takako Tweet is no newbie. She has been around the internet for a while doing a lot of Tweeting. Now, that she is maturing she is bringing order to every domains she is in.

Headmistress:

Headmistress is the Netiquette leader of her Twitter Temple. Takoko Tweet is her pupil.

Cindy Smartphone:

Ms. Smartphone is sleek and slener with a robust platform. Her features are outstanding. Everyone that bears her netiquette name is big on features with a robust set of applications.

Nathan Newbie:

Nathan Newbie is shy and quiet at first, but he is always a hard worker. Always on time never late, team player, free with compliments. He is the man because he knows his place.
