A reasonable time varies depending on the importance of the message. An immediate response may be required for urgent messages. Email messages may include priority information. Acknowledgement of a message is considerate. It builds trust in a professional digital relationship.

Internet Etiquette

Generally, wait at least one day before sending a follow up email. One business day is a standard response time for email messages.

Send a reply message to emails that you cannot handle immediately. An anticipated time for completion is helpful. Make sure you add extra time to the response for unforeseen delays. Respond before the deadline if possible.
