Plain Text Personal Email Netiquette Rules

It is good Netiquette to send messages in plain text. Don't send html emails unless you know the software capabilities.


Many browsers and internet applications do not support HTML messages for security reasons. They block images. Recently created software is capable of displaying images.

Old software may not be compatible with messages composed or sent with new software. Most free applications can handle html messages.

Internet Etiquette

Plain text messages are considered easy to view. They download fast because the file size is small. It is all text.

Reading plain text email messages on mobile devices is preferable to many. This option is often set from the setting menu. Media or other files sometimes contain viruses, which is another reason fully featured email is sometimes blocked.


Send plain text messages because it makes them more readable.
