The Golden Rule of Netiquette is to do unto others on the internet as you would have done to you.
This rule is included in the netiquette philosophy to give it a spiritual, moral, and ethical basis. It is the universal rule of netiquette designed to promote goodwill. Practically, applied the Golden Rule of Netiquette is to be nice.
The Golden Rule of Netiquette is the basic spiritual foundation. The Ten Core Rules of Netiquette are the basic regalatory foundation. Both concepts are part of the netiquette philosophy.
Simply put, the netiquette philosophy is to be nice and communicate effectively.

As the internet has developed, categories of websites have evolved with cultural rules of interaction, netiquette. Each category of websites supports all forms of internet content to some degree, they have their own culture. The various sets of rules for each website are netiquettes. Each category of website is different, social media is friendly, email is formal, wireless is highly situational, education is disciplined, e-commerce is semi-professional, digital video is amateur, and gaming is competitive. Safety has its own culture focused on computer security and crime prevention. The way a sites culture develops is a refelection of the sites values and mission.

We are human, so netiquette is human. The human condition is positive, caring, and thoughtful. People are good. From this principle comes one of the core rules of netiquette. Do not do things on the internet you would not do int reality. Positive comments and heart warming stories are part of the human condition, which makes them good netiquette. Knowing how to criticize someone in cyberspace without hurting their feelings is as well.
The actual rules of netiquette are the common conventions of internet communication. Netiquette is an ethical concept based on the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have done to you. Proper internet etiquette requires the highest ethical standards. The ten core rules are the foundation of the rules of netiquette. The top netiquette rules in each category are the beginning of a new class, the internet class.
Online education is bringing the internet age upon us. Be nice; Practice good netiquette by following the netiquette rules; And remember the golden rule of netiquette, do unto others on the internet as you would have done to you. This is how good people surf the internet from this point forward. Anything else is uncivilized.
Social Media is the interactive dissemination of information through the internet. Blogs, micro-blogs, and social networks are social media websites. Interactive dissemination of information means that users can comment on stories and authors can reply to user comments. This form of media relies on User Generated Content (UGC) to find an audience among the authors friends. UGC is content created by the users of a network rather than the provider of the network. It is designed to be shared with friends and viewed by the general public.
Social Networks deliver the core services of the internet through a social platform for friendly purposes. They allow users to: post status updates in text, upload and watch videos, make real time audio connections, and post pictures and graphics. Facebook, LinkedIn, and MySpace are the most popular social networks. They allow you to connect with people on the internet. Each site has its own netiquette. Facebook is the market leader because it is the biggest and other social networks copy their features.
Email is a cyber word. It's a contraction of electronic and mail that describes messages sent over the internet in various file formats. It is formal because schools and busineses were the first to use it, but is now used by the mainstream. Gmail, Hotmail, and Ymail are free email applications. These sites allow you to open an account for sending and receiving electronic mail from a unique internet address.
Wireless internet is powered by mobile devices, Cell phones, tablets, and laptops. AT & T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint are the largest wireless service providers in the United States. Mobile netiquette is highly situational because devices are extremely portable. They can be taken and used anywhere.
Proper netiquette is taught at accredited institutions everywhere. Schools are turning to the internet to compliment classroom education. They are also using online education as a low cost alternative to classroom instruction. This makes practicing proper netiquette a requirement to get a good education because it is easy to fall behind and hard to catch up. Teaching, learning, and practicing netiquette require discipline because standards are built on consistency. We must be disciplined in our education to use correctly.
Business gets done on the internet because it is a fast and cheap medium of communication. E-Commerce is transaction based business on the internet, eBay, Amazon, and Craigslist are the giants. It's not personal, but it is social, sales are driven by social recommendations. Auctions, classifieds, retail, and other niche markets are emerging. The professional standard offline shall be applied to your industry online.
Traditionally, video has been transmitted in an analog format. The digital format, which includes various file formats, facilitates sharing video on the internet and high definition recording. As internet speeds have increased, so has digital video use on the internet becuase it requires a high speed connection and a lot of bandwidth to download or stream. YouTube is the standard for amateur internet video, while, Netflix is the standard for paid content.
Video Games are played on the internet and through consoles that connect to the internet. XBox, Playstation, Wii, and Social Network Games are popular in the industry right now. Gaming is competitive because many people play to win. Since it is about winning for some, traditional concepts of sportsmanship apply.
Cybersafety focuses on how we protect ourselves from danger, risk, and crime. Common practices of protecting your identity on the internet are cyber safety netiquette rules. For example, it is good cyber safety netiquette to use an internet handle that is different from your legal name.

NetworkEtiquette.net is the authority on the rules of netiquette because they were created by this site. I first published the rules of Netiquette by NetworkEtiquette.net in 2006. There are many other rules of netiquette not contained in this site. My Netiquette Community on Facebook has a great deal more netiquette rules than this site alone. The rules contained in this site are the core rules and the top rules for each category.

Betty Blog is a very opinionated person. She always speaks her mind and dresses in her own style. She knows to ask questions and question authority. She is not one of those people who just goes with the flow. She demands clarification.
Nathan Newbie:
Nathan Newbie is a quiet shy type. He knows to lurk before he leaps on the internet. This character appears in many of my animations because Nathan Newbies character does what he is told, which is great netiquette.
Vivian Video:
Ms. Video is just getting her start in the cyber world. Until now no one has had enough bandwith to truly appreciate her. She is slowly but surely gaining ground on all the text out there on the internet and hopes to have more content.
Wendy Wireless:
Ms. Wireless is the most valuable player on the netiquette team. She is responsible for sharing more netiquette than any other character. Her mobility is here greatest asset. She is every where in my animations.
Ted Tweet:
Mr Tweet is moving pretty fast. He says what he needs to say in 140 character or less and is on to the next thought. There is a lot of action in his life. He is working on a way to find more video projects.
Harry Headmaster:
Mr. Headmaster is the headmaster of The Virtual Academy. This is a separate and distinct school from the Netiquette School. Harry Headmaster is from the old school in a new school world and is slowly learning how to adapt.
Yusef YouTube:
Yusef YouTube is down to give all the trolls out there some real netiquette. He is not scared of lies. Nancy and Yusef make sure the everyone knows to tell the truth. It's good netiquette.
Sara Social Media:
Sara Social Media is a MySpace Model with the brains of slashdot contributor. She embodies everything good about Social Media and is not afraid to tell you about it.
Terrance (Terry) Troll:
He is a little troll with no real friends who starts flame wars for no reason or cause. The cyber sphere is trying to find him something positive to do.
Thomas (Tommy) Troll:
Thomas is a real Troll. He does not like anybody unless he is scheming in some way. Thomas Troll will start a flame war with anyone for any reason. He has many different profiles because he is banned from so many networks.
Cafe Joe:
Cafe Joe is the cyber bar tender. He knows everything there is to know about the internet and he is willing to share it with big tippers.
