Buffering Mobile Video Netiquette Rules

It proper Netiquette to pause to allow buffering. Don't watch video until the buffer is full.


Video data is stored in a buffer for playback. Mobile devices have limited storage space for buffering. Data download speed varies. Low bandwidth connections are slow. Low signal strength decreases bandwidth. Many users connected to the same network slows downloads as well.

Internet Etiquette

Video play is supposed to be continuous. When the buffer is empty the video stops. It waits for the data to download before it begins to play again. A buffering message appears. It may stop and then start before the message appears. A visable break in picture happens. Audio stops playing as well. Pausing the player allows video to download into the buffer for continuous play.


Pause to allow buffering because it gives us control of the stream.
