It is proper Netiquette to refrain from changing factory specifications. Don't jailbreak or root devices.
Jailbreaking and rooting are separate ways in which factory specifications for devices are changed. Apple products require jailbreaking to modify the Operating System for use with certain mobile networks and accessories. Android Operating Systems can be rooted to make them compatible with certain mobile networks and accessories. Changing the factory settings invalidates the warranty.
Jailbreaking and rooting devices may cause unknown malfunctions. The warranty cannot be used to replace the products. It is a risky thing to do with a valuable investment.
Don't change factory specifications, jailbreak or root, because it invalidates the warranty and may cause malfunction.
