Facebook Netiquette

Facebook netiquette is the social code of using Facebook. Facebook is a social networking website. Netiquette is the social code of the internet. Therefore, Facebook Netiquette is the social code of using Facebook because Facebook is a website on the internet and netiquette is the social code of the internet.

Facebook Netiquette Rules

Social Network

A social network is a hybrid application of the internet that uses all of its forms to connect you with your friends, organizations, and businesses by sharing information, social media. Users create a profile and connect with friends and like pages.

The do's and don'ts of Facebook etiquette. The way we “share” our stories and “Like” the ones our friends “share” with us is Facebook Netiquette. Common practices and conventions are the social part of social media.

In order to use Facebook effectively you have to know and follow the common practices of users. Use good netiquette. It is an ever changing website, so the common practices are always changing as well.

Facebook’s like button is responsible for most of the sharing that goes on online. Most social networking sites have some variation of the like button inspired by fb. Other websites variations of the like button are usually placed next to it at the end of articles and the bottom of webpages.

Fan Pages

Whoever has the most Fans wins. It is not a contest, but having Fans is good. It is a way to connect with the people who make up your brand. The pages appear in search engine results, which makes them the public image and only website for many people and organizations.

Facebook is all about your friends. If you have enough friends they become fans. I have fan pages, but my fans are really my Facebook friends too.

  • Like a page rather than friending a fake profile because it's dishonest to fake a profile and against the rules to friend them.
  • Only friend people you "really know."

  • *It is common in some industries, so it's not necessarily bad netiquette if you're in the industry, but it is against the rules.

Facebook

Facebook defines the social networking industry, which is the largest part of social media. It has the most users with accounts. Facebook had over 800 million users in September 2011 alone. They had 1 Trillion page views in June 2011. There is no competition. Facebook is the standard in social networking because it requires users to be truthful about their identities.

Prior to Facebook, the most popular social network MySpace, did not and still does not require users to provide accurate information. This requirement makes Facebook a great place to do business because you know who your doing business with. They have led the social media industry with great products and services. The News Feed, Like button, and Fan Pages have been copied by all major social networks.

Now it is possible to share a page with hundreds of different social media websites the same way it is to like it on Facebook. It is good netiquette to like real articles, not marketing copy. Furthermore it is bad netiquette to Like your own material. However, you are welcome to share your material.

Everyone could use a little netiquette!
