It is proper Netiquette to use extensions. Do install useful extensions.
Extensions enhance email software programs. In general they are made by third parties. Third party email apps have third party extensions. They are available for free email accounts and other third party software. Many add signatures, make content easily viewable in a browser, and add other tweaks to good software programs. Added security is a benefit as well.
There are a lot of extensions available for Thunderbird and Gmail. Each has there own marketplace for finding them. Installation must be done after acquisition.
Use extensions because they provide functionality and security.
