eBay Netiquette is the social code of eBay. eBay is a website that contains the world biggest market place. Netiquette is the social code of the internet.
eBay is the largest market place in the world. It is an online auction websites. An auction is the sale of an item to the highest bidder after a specific time period.
An internet auction is partially or wholly aided by the internet. eBay is primarily an auction site, but allows users to sell items traditionally as well.
Netiquette, network etiquette, is the social code of the internet because the internet is a network and etiquette is a social code. The internet is a network because it is a collection of computers that communicate through electronic signals. Etiquette is a social code because the standards are set by contemporary norms.
Therefore, eBay Netiquette is the social code of eBay because eBay is a website on the internet and netiquette is the social code of the internet.
The internet is social. Ecommerce started with porn and you can't get more social than that. Ebay and Amazon became profitable next because of social media sales.
Social media sales are the sale of products or services based on a friends recommendation or some other recommendation from a website that contains user generated content (UGC).
The culture of eBay is built on feedback. Good feedback is good netiquette. There are ways to beat the system, but for the most part it works well. For example, it is bad netiquette to ask someone to leave positive feedback or not to write anything bad about you or the transaction.
eBay built the social media sales model with profits, Amazon perfected it with sales. The feedback sales format built a real community on eBay whose results are tangible. eBay's results can be measured in the number of users and transactions.
Amazon is a sales model for online transactions, eBay is a community based on online transactions. Since, eBay is cultural it's brand has become a necessity. eBay is the largest market place in the world.
Feedback has the power to make users be good because it puts money their bank accounts and delivers goods to their homes. The higher a persons feedback score the better service that user receives because they have credibility among users.
The conventions of netiquette developed naturally on eBay around the customer because feedback plays an integral part of success. Site design set the boundaries but users make the rules because the site is a facilitator rather than a business partner.
Every user is a small business person. Just like in reality, business is built on your reputation. It's good netiquette to have a good reputation on eBay so that people will do business with you. Every transaction is a business deal. The rules of business apply and the emotions of a garage sale do too. Be nice and kind, it's good netiquette and good business.
eBay built the internet bubble of the mid-nineties because everyone tried to copy their success with inferior business models. Anyone with a good idea was getting start-up money. They knew no netiquette.
eBay is successfull because so many people use it successfully, which created its own culture, netiquette. eBay is an economy all to itself. Other business models are based on the real world economy not the cybersperic one if social media sales.
Everyone could use a little netiquette!
