It is proper Netiquette to respond to comments that contribute to the topic. Do reply to good statements. Don't answer negative remarks.
A comment that is ignored without reason is rude because comments are made for a response. In the blogosphere responding to comments is active online engagement.
Negative comments do not contribute to the topic. By definition they subtract from a post. They may be deleted. Responding is unconventional.
Readers will return to read comments if you respond. This will promote your content and help adjust future content for better engagement. When a reader comments on a blog there is usually a common reason.
Comments are exclamations on engagement and what make it fun. They create an experience. The more users experience a blog through engagement the more users will be attracted to a particular blog. It is crowd theory. The more attention a blog can draw the more traffic will look. Traffic is defined through hits and views.
Respond to comments accordingly because there are benefits and drawbacks.
